Don’t worry, you’ll make a wonderful first impression – we know it!
1. Prepare your clothes and lunch the night before
There is no better feeling than feeling organised…right? To prepare for your big day at your new job, it is important to have everything packed and ready to go the night before. There is nothing worse than waking up on your first day and instantly feeling stressed because you don’t know what to wear or your favourite shoes are broken. Anything could happen, so it’s best to prepare for the worst. Set out your clothing the night before and make sure you have your lunch packed and ready for the day as well. No one wants to go hungry on their first day!
2. Bring a notepad and pen
You may think this is an obvious tip, but majority of the time it can be forgotten. Starting at a new job is similar to school – you’d arrive on the day with your pens, pencils and desk all ready and waiting for you. Workplaces will tend to offer this as well, but it’s never guaranteed. So, add a couple of pens and a notepad to your work bag, just in case you need it on your first day to take some important notes!
3. Bring your best self!
Starting a new job can feel very overwhelming, especially with getting to know new people and learning the job. The best possible thing you can bring to your first day is to bring your best self! Get a good night’s sleep, take a moment to breathe, remember why you’re there – they chose YOU for the job! A bit of positive self-talk in the morning will never go astray. Kindness and positivity will be your best asset, so take on the day headfirst. You’ve got this!
With these handy tips in mind for your first day at your new job, you will be sure to nail it, and every day after. Soon enough you won’t be the newbie in the workplace and you can pass on these tips to the next new employee!
